status report

20 Jan

Apologies for an absence of posts.

Tonight I’ve listened to Gustav Holst (The Planets)  and the Grateful Dead (American Beauty). If you can find a connection to prompt a blog post, do let me know!

Both are missing a Dark Star?

I tried to think of a connection. Maybe (boringly) variation is the spice of…? I commented on the Oyster Band after you seeing them live and being disappointed, to say the least. At 6.55pm on Radio 2 today (22/1/14), Simon Mayo played a ‘folky showstppper’. It was by June Tabor and The Oyster Band from an album called ‘Ragged Kingdom’. Someone gave it to me as a present a few years ago, which I love – and, if you’ve heard it, THAT performance of Joy Division’s song is extraordinary.

Will (re)listen to it immediately with Big Ears. Thanks for tip.

Forgot to say. It was ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’. Highly recommended – by Simon Mayo.

It’s a bit bleak – but very, very good.
